Age of technology - a win for wildlife

An accredited research establishment undertaking assessments for environmental impact and other purposes has found that investment in new mapping software and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology has produced a welcome spin-off for fauna surveys.

The technology enables very accurate maps of habitats to be made and linked directly with observational data such as call detection, spotlighting and hair tube sampling. The resultant maps accurately record habitats and species, significantly reducing the need for trapping of animals in order to establish their identity and confirm their presence.
